Beachbody Coach Summit Rocks!

BEACHBODY COACH SUMMIT 2010

Well, as you may know, just over a week ago I had the great opportunity to go to Los Angeles, CA to the 3rd annual Beachbody Coach Summit. It is such an amazing experience to meet, talk to, and workout LIVE with the incredible celebrity trainers of the programs that I do at home in my family room every day. I had the most amped up, best workout ever with a huge group of fellow Beachbody coaches and trainers: Debbie Siebers (Slim in 6), Leandro Carvahlo (Brazil Butt Lift), Brett Hoebel (Rev Abs), Chalene Johnson (Turbo Fire), Shaun T (Insanity), and of course Tony Horton (P90X)....the energy was through the roof! I also got the chance to network with fellow coaches that I'd gotten to know online &/or via phone calls and even meet new friends. We gained valuable information and insight from Beachbody corporate, learned from our team of coaches, brainstormed new ideas in focus groups, and heard inspiring messages from Craig Holiday and Success magazine publisher, Darren Hardy. We saw and heard stories of many physical and life transformations thanks to Beachbody's incredible fitness programs and nutritionals like Shakeology. I'm still coming down off that high from all the energy I absorbed while there. I hope it doesn't wear off; I don't think it will....I'll keep riding that wave with enthusiasm. At this point, I'm already excited for Coach Summit 2011 & tickets are already on sale! I'm already planning to attend and have my ticket reserved! I went to Beachbody's Coach Summit 2009 too & can say that each year seems to get bigger and better! It truly is indescribable and priceless.

Well, all I can say is that if more people were able to make it to Beachbody Coach Summit and see what it is all about from a first hand experience, that they too would get all hyped up about Beachbody, fitness, health, nutrition, and Beachbody's mission of ending the obesity epidemic in America. It's about people helping people reach their goals and improve their lives and relationships. That's what the Beachbody Coaching opportunity is all about. If you would like to help others, while reaching your own goals, and getting physically & financially fit, then we need to talk. So, drop me an email & plan on attending Beachbody Coach Summit 2011 with me. There is nothing else like it!

May Tony Horton "One-on-One" workout: 4 Legs....Plus TURBO FIRE Bonus!

I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of my May dvd subscription to Tony Horton's "One on One." Each month I get a new workout in my mailbox automatically. This year Beachbody has started adding bonuses to some of the monthly dvd's. One "One on One" workout featured a jump rope routine and it came with a free jump rope as a bonus. April's "One on One" workout came with a sample pack of Shakeology. I'm anxious to receive May's "One on One" workout: 4 Legs!...and even more excited to try the bonus that comes with it! May's "One on One" will be a great workout for athletes that rely on leg power....and who doesn't?

The description says: "One on One, 4 Legs! Tony works the biggest muscles in your body while forcing you to work on one leg! The benefits of this routine will be apparent as you build strength, stamina, and balance. If you play sports, this is a MUST-HAVE workout!"

I can already see from the preview that this workout would be great for girls who play roller derby!...Derby girls need leg strength & stamina to move quickly around the track & stay derby down for lengthy periods of time. Of course, any other type of athlete would benefit too. It would be great for anyone!

Personally, I'm doubly exited because from May 3rd through June 2nd, "the One on One" will feature a special subscribers-only preview of the hottest new Beachbody® title, TurboFire®, set to launch as the basic set or deluxe set in late June 2010. So, new and existing Tony Horton "One on One" subscribers will get a full sample workout from TurboFire, the new High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) program. I can't wait!!!! If you love Tony (P90X) & love Chalene (Turbo Jam), would like to get a sample of her new graduate workout, or would like to sample both workout styles, this is the perfect time to get 2 workouts for just under $20 (or $15 for coaches). BTW, previous "One on One" workouts can be selected individually for purchase, as well.

TURBO FIRE is coming....SOON!!!

TURBO FIRE is the highly anticipated Beachbody program, by "Turbo Jam" & "ChaLEAN Extreme" creator & trainer, Chalene Johnson. It is a series of 12 HiiT (High Intensity Interval Training) workouts, that (to me) look somewhat like a fusion of Turbo Jam and Insanity. This has been a long time in the making and I can't wait to try it out! Knowing Chalene Johnson, it is gonna have some awesome, high energy music too! I will be one of many lucky coaches to try it out LIVE with Chalene in the coming month!!! So exciting! :)

TURBO FIRE is sure to heat up your workout routine & burn some major fat! Take a look at the sneak peek that Beachbody put together for us. Turbo Fire is going to be released soon! If it looks like something you'd be interested in, just drop me an note with your email and I'll make sure to let you know right away when it is available.

I'm Back!

It's been forever since my last post. Life has been very busy this year, with lots of changes, and my plate overfloweth. However, I plan to begin making more regular posts. Lots going on....So, stay tuned...

One Tweet, Two Tweet...

Celebs tweet and talk about it, magazines write about it, and many know about it from the infomercials or from first hand experience…Blood, Sweat, & Tears…well, maybe just the sweat (& lots of it)!  I’m talking about Beachbody fitness programs and in the case of many celebrity mentions, P90X.  I know Beachbody programs work and many other friends and fellow Independent Beachbody Coaches can attest, if you follow the program as outlined it WILL WORK FOR YOU, but the question is: How bad do you want it?  Are you willing to work for it?  In this case the “it” I’m referring to is whatever result(s) you want.  Do you want to become a better athlete, become healthier, faster, stronger, leaner; maybe you want to work on eating cleaner and be a better role model for your family?  No magic pills here…anything worth attaining in life doesn’t come without hard work!  In this case, hard work pays off!

At the Grammy Awards in February, Singer Sheryl Crow mentioned to E!’s Guiliana that she’d been doing P90X to get into such amazing shape.  Sheryl looks amazing in her red carpet interview: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oEUPf4JUoW4   First off, yes we can all agree that Sheryl has always looked great, but lets keep in mind that she is currently 47 years young!  So, it is likely that she has to work a bit harder in recent years to keep her physique looking fabulous.  One might argue that her physique is in even better shape now than 10 years ago.  In any case, FITNESS magazine recently undertook a test of P90X after hearing Shery’s comment and their review was quite positive.  Read the review yourself, if you’re skeptical: http://www.fitnessmagazine.com/workout/real-plans/celebrity/how-sheryl-crow-stays-fit-the-p90x-workout/ .

If you watched Without a Trace last year, you may have noticed that Poppy Montgomery lost 70 pounds post-delivery of her son and guess what?…she lost it using P90X and by eating a consistent calorie allowance daily.  People magazine wrote about Poppy’s post-pregnancy weight loss: http://www.people.com/people/archive/article/0,,20245512,00.html

S0, maybe you’re not into Sheryl or Poppy.  Perhaps you’re a sports fan?  Well, I’m not into watching professional sports myself, but I hear Atlanta Braves outfielder Matt Diaz, along with his wife, also completed P90X during the off season and on the heals (no pun intended) of an injury.  He talks about his weight loss and improvements: http://www.ajc.com/sports/content/sports/braves/stories/2009/04/02/matt_diaz_news.html

Additionally, Baltimore Raven Linebacker Ray Lewis used P90X.  Can’t speak to your Brett Favre loyalty after he left Green Bay, but traitor or not, he tweeted about doing P90X.  I guess there are multiple Brett Favre’s on Twitter, but we’ll just assume it is the real ex-Packer himself.  Speaking of Tweeting, if you need more (unpaid) celebrity endorsements, Ashton Kucher & cougar wife Demi Moore (both hot, you gotta admit it!) also Tweeted about their experience with P90X and People Magazine gave their tweet a nod: http://www.peoplestylewatch.com/people/stylewatch/package/gallery/0,,20222169_20266520,00.html

As stated in People Magazine, “The actor [Ashton Kucher] recently admitted he had to step up his fitness regimen for an upcoming role. ‘Time to get serious. I'm so paranoid about doing scenes with my shirt off.’ Meanwhile, his wife [Demi Moore] has also spilled about keeping up with her man. ‘I have only done the yoga DVD of the P90X so far and that kicked my a--! The husband is banging it out everyday though! I need to motivate!!’”

Well, if you don’t think P90X is your thing, there are plenty to choose from!  Variety is the spice of life.  The point is to DO SOMETHING!!! Heck, even P. Diddy (Sean Combs) tweeted about a Beachbody workout.  He tweeted about doing Shaun T’s hip Hop Abs and even invited people to join him!  I just think it is an incredible attestation to the quality, effectiveness, and convenience of Beachbody’s fitness and nutrition programs, since these celebrities and sports figures could certainly afford to hire ANY personal trainer they want or buy any fitness equipment they desire.  P90X & Beachbody are the real deals, in more ways than one….can’t beat the price, especially when compared to a gym membership.  Even more of a steal when you consider the inconvenience of going to the gym, wasting time driving to & fro, gas expense, cute workout outfit, time oogling over some gym hotties…you get the point!

Summer is just around the corner; are you happy with the way you look and feel?  If not, now is a great time to start a new program, shake things up, and get your metabolism revved up for summer activities.  There’s no time like the present!  I’d be happy to talk to you about all the possible ways to reach your goals, like healthy eating/cooking tips and adding more activity to your life, including looking at the various Beachbody programs available to best meet your needs.  There is certainly a program for every taste, style, and fitness level. And don’t forget, you’ll never be alone in this venture.  As a Beachbody Coach (& current or future friend) I’m here for you.  Plus, you’ll find the Team Beachbody community is very supportive as well. Just drop me an email or give me a call if you want more information...or click on one of the links at right to be directed to my website for more information.

New Year! New Goals! New You!

Are you looking back at 2008 and wondering when exactly your New Year’s Resolution flew out the window? If you’re like most people, it was probably somewhere around the end of the first or second week of January. Why is it that each year, we get hyped-up about New Year’s Resolutions, but they quickly get swept under the rug?

As we approach the start of 2009, I’ve been reflecting on my previous resolutions – only to realize that I’ve had the same resolutions regarding getting fit and losing weight for the past 10 plus years! This is sad because it means that each year I gave up on attaining my goals, in most cases within a few weeks or a month of the New Year. I asked myself why this happened? Why did I fail? Was it because I lacked willpower or commitment? Was it because I just wasn’t ready or that I just didn’t really care, deep down? I could use the excuse that I was too busy and life just got in the way. I got sick too often and I was just plain tired. Those statements are true, but in retrospect, not necessarily good excuses. Unfortunately, I could come up with many more excuses, but when it comes to achieving goals of health, fitness, and self-improvement, there are no “valid” excuses.

What could be more important than getting fit and healthy? I know life gets busy. I’m a single mom and a high school teacher, which is no 9-5 job. It seems like I have very little “me-time.” Fitting in that 30-60 minutes of exercise every day has been a challenge for me. However, we all really need to put ourselves first; doing so will positively affect every other aspect of our lives. I know this; it’s the difference between knowing the path and walking the path. This is where I’ve had to change my attitude, so that I put my knowledge into practice.

If I cut through all crap, all those lame excuses that I told myself to justify my inadequate follow-through and commitment, I think my failure came about because I didn’t put enough effort into planning my strategies for successfully attaining my goals. I didn’t commit the time to myself everyday. I didn’t have a solid plan and I didn’t have a support system to help keep me on track. I did make some progress in ’08, but not the strides I had intended at the New Year. I did lose about 15 pounds, gain some lean muscle mass, and make some strides in cardio endurance. However, I didn’t fully commit to achieving my goals and therefore fell short of what I had intended when I set my resolution.

So, what am I doing differently this year, you might wonder? As you may know, I became an Independent Beachbody Coach this year. That means I’m trying to help as many people as I can achieve their fitness and weight loss goals, while also achieving my own. This helps keep my focus where I want it to be, on fitness, nutrition, and meeting goals…both personally and professionally. I am committed to a "pushing play" regularly (following the plan as it laid out), and helping others plan their assault on their goals (and fat) as well.

I now have that carefully designed plan in the form of a Beachbody exercise program. In the last year, I’ve done Power 90 and P90X, rather inconsistently, but surprisingly still got some good results. It bothers me though, to think of the results I could be sporting right now, if I had stuck with it and put more of my energy and focus into it.
Now, I’m just starting Beachbody’s newest program, ChaLEAN Extreme! It includes 3 one-month phases (Burn, Push, & Lean phases) and mixes up 15 different workouts among the 90 days. I know that all I have to do is follow the prescribed workout rotation (which changes it up to prevent plateaus & boredom), as well as the nutrition plan and I will be successful! It is a two-part equation though, regular exercise (strength training & cardio intervals) and clean-eating habits that work synergistically to create amazing transformations. I want to become one of those amazing transformation stories, so I'm going to work at following the program.

THINGS I'D SUGGEST IN SETTING FITNESS GOALS:

1. Set a goal that you REALLY care about. This goal should excite you, and yet challenge you, or it’s highly unlikely that you will achieve it.

2. Pick one or two major goals and write them down on paper (perhaps one personal goal & one professional goal). The fewer goals you set, the more likely that you’ll achieve them. As they say at Beachbody: Decide. Commit. Succeed!

3. Decide on an exercise regime. Beachbody has a lot of program variety to meet different exercise styles and from beginner to advanced levels. The great thing is, that compared to gym memberships (can run between $400-$800/yr) these programs are quite inexpensive and are at your fingertips whenever it’s convenient for you. Plus, you get to work out in the privacy of your own home, so you won’ t have to spend money on gas, parking, cute gym outfits, memberships, trainers, etc. or waste the commute time either. Plus, it’s likely that with consistent effort, that your results will surpass those of your fellow gym buddy, anyway!

4. Write your daily exercise schedule on your calendar each day…in PEN! Make an appointment with yourself. Treat it like a job. Whatever is going to work for YOU! It is said that the best time to exercise is in the morning right when you wake up. That way, the craziness of life hasn’t flooded your day yet. I know from personal experience that it is way too easy to succumb to excuses at the end of a busy work day, after cooking the family meal, helping kids with bath time and homework, when you’re beat and just want to sink into the couch. Get your workout done early & you’ll feel better about your day!

5. Start right now! Who says you have to wait until January 1st? Get a jump on the New Year now!

6. Focus, Focus, Focus! Keep your goal(s) on the radar every day. Don’t lose sight of them. You must work toward reaching your goal daily. You may need to push things that don’t support or relate to your goal to the sidelines. Clearly, this doesn’t mean neglecting your kids or partner, but it may mean saying no to organizing the PTO bake sale or volunteering for that extra committee at work.

7. If your goal is a big one, break it down into more manageable chunks or phases. Many of the Beachbody programs do just this. Many follow the goal setting principles of breaking down a big goals into smaller phases. For instance, both ChaLEAN Extreme and P90X both have 3 one-month phases and then a maintenance phase, (called Lean for Life in ChaLEAN Extreme) which is basically the phase you can follow throughout your life.

8. Find a support network. This could be a group of peers or friends who are committed to reaching similar goals. I’d be happy to be your free fitness coach and support you in reaching your goals, just let me know how often you want me to check in and get on your case if you’re skipping workouts! Plus, Beachbody has taken this into account and created a forum for supporting one another, while allowing you to track your workouts, invite friends to workout "virtually" together in the online SuperGym, and interact in the message boards, etc.

9.
Remember, fitness is a journey and nobody’s perfect. There are bound to be bumps in the road. You’ve got to remember to fuel your body properly or you’ll run out of gas (eat 5x/day…3 small meals & 2 snacks every 2-3 hours). Keep in mind that some days you might make a wrong turn, but don’t get lost! Don’t be afraid to ask for directions when needed, in order to find your way back to the road that will get you where you were headed. With consistent effort, you WILL get where you want to go…it’s only a matter of time.

10. Reflect on your progress regularly. Modify your goal if needed and set new goals once your original goal has been met. Most Beachbody programs, for instance, have more advanced programs that you can graduate to once you achieve your initial goal or complete your first round of a program. For instance, add the Deluxe Upgrade DVD#7 to your ChaLEAN Extreme mix, or take on P90X+ after P90X, Slim Series after Slim in 6, Rockin’ Body after Hip Hop Abs, etc.)

So, what do YOU want to achieve in 2009? If you want to create new, healthy habits and learn to take on the lifestyle of a fit person, I’d be happy to help you on your journey. I’ll be here to help you along the way, but I can’t do the workouts for you. I will journal my own fitness journey and hopefully my struggles and successes will resonate with you. As you know, I’m working toward achieving my goal, as well. However, if you’re ready for the challenge, it’s a journey I’d like to take on with you, my friend.
